M. SPERLING ART
Martha Sperling grew up in Bucks County and has studied with various local and famous teachers. Trained in art history in Florence and Paris, she has painted since she was a child. At the age of 12 she worked with the local watercolorist, Jean Burford in Churchville. She then studied figure painting and abstract art at Bucks County Community College. More recently Martha has focused on the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, studying local impressionism. Additional training with the wonderful Christine LaFuente, the late Marge Kavooshian, and inspirational Kelly Sullivan, Jim Lukens, Betty Minnucci and George Thompson.
Honors, Shows, and Awards
Recently she has exhibited at the 34th and 36th Ellarslie Open at the Trenton City Museum.
- She has been accepted twice into the juried Artist of Yardley Show
- She won a special award for Best Still-life at the Philadelphia Sketch Club Art of the Flower
She won the award for oil painting in the style of the Bucks County Impressionists at the 2017 Phillips Mill Exhibition.
A long time member of the Doylestown Art League, she has won awards at several of their shows, both in oil and First Place in Watercolor.
Other shows she has entered have been in New Hope, Lambertville, Stockton, Trenton and Doylestown.
Martha teaches oil painting. She tries to absorb a little bit of magic from each of her teachers and enjoys the beauty of Solebury where she currently lives.
